La Jolla Rough Swim

This past Sunday, I swam in my first open water race! It was a one mile swim around a portion of La Jolla Cove, where the water was a balmy 69 degrees or so. It was a great day for a swim, and I enjoyed it, although there was a lot of running over and being run over in a race with so many other women!

I was in the first start of the Women's Masters race with ~220 other women ages 19-39.


I finished in 26 and a half minutes, 54th out of about 440 women. Six of the of the women were over 70 years old, including one who was 81! Hopefully I will be swimming at that age... I was exhausted when I got out, and swimming a race that long was completely different thana any of my previous sprint swimming. Here's my tired smile at the end:
